Ambiance Evolution is a multi-genre trio formed by pianist Katie Tall and vocalist Amelia Petrie in 2012. Originally, they came together to share their passion for music. They loved working together so much that they started collaborating on creating their own music; taking elements of their favorite musical styles. Amelia and Katie love writing songs with poetic lyrics and rich and complex harmonies. They have three hours of original music ready to perform, and if a slightly different set is needed, they pepper the originals with as many crowd-pleasing cover songs as desired (such as songs by Adele, Muse, Florence + the Machine, Stevie Nicks and Dave Matthews). In July, 2014, they expanded their sound with the addition of Jon Ward, drummer extraordinaire.
Katie Tall, Piano/Guitar/Percussion/Back-Up Vocals…is a pianist, guitarist, percussionist, singer-songwriter, classical music composer, and teacher living in Denver, CO. Since she was very young, Katie has immersed herself in writing poetry and music, and continues to explore as many different sounds and musical genres as possible. Joni Mitchell, Pink Floyd, Mozart, Bach, and Theloneous Monk are just a few musical geniuses that have inspired Katie to write music. Katie also writes and performs for reggae/alternative rock band The Dubterraneans, and continues playing classical music as well.
Amelia Petrie, Vocals/Guitar/Percussion…is a classically trained singer and folk guitarist. She recently began songwriting for Ambiance, and continues to teach, as she has been doing for 23 years. She has her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in performance and has been studying classical voice since 1986. Although she is a coloratura soprano and sings classical music, she has taught the bel canto technique to all genres with great success; particularly with lead singers of rock bands who find that the style is very hard on their voices. In the past few years, Amelia has expanded her vocal range and style to include pop, jazz, and folk melodies. Amelia is known for her clear, distinctive voice and performance charm.
Jon Ward, Drum, percussion and “things that go bump in the night”… lives in Denver, Colorado, not far from downtown. Jon has been playing drums since his teen years in North Carolina. Jon has played in several rock bands in both North Carolina and Colorado, as well as in high school and college. Most recently he’s played drums with Katie in the Dubterraneans, a rock/reggae band. He is a big fan of most styles of music and can often be found taking in the scene at The Fillmore, The Ogden, The Bluebird and (his favorite) Red Rocks. Some of his favorite bands are The Avett Brothers, Drive By Truckers, Govt Mule, Jason Isbell and many of the classic rock bands from the 70’s. He’s also a fan of Avicii, Pink, Fitz and The Tantrums and Deadmaus.
Ambiance Evolution is excited that their music is heard on 7522 Radio.
